Worship and Prayer

‘Worship is to quicken the conscience by the Holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God’ ~ William Temple

Our heart here at Encounter is to be a worshipping community. We believe that we are all called to a lifestyle of 24:7 worship. This lifestyle of living sacrificially before the Lord, dovetails with our corporate worship gatherings. There are key values about our worship that are consistent, and some practices that vary with, the size and nature of the meeting. We believe that the kingdom of God is a dynamic realm and that when we enter the kingdom, we experience this dynamic reality. Our experience of the kingdom of God and our experience of God’s presence is central to our worship, faith and Christian life.

Values

Non-religious Christianity. We want to avoid things that replace relationship with God with rituals, or make accessibility to Him hard because of our religiosity.

Intimacy. We want to address The Lord with love and adoration; draw near to Him, not just talk about Him

Naturally Supernatural. We want to be led by the Holy Spirit but in un-hyped and natural ways. We want to welcome the leadership, presence, gifts and anointing of the Holy Spirit as we worship.

Accessibility. We want to welcome those who are seeking and searching, the curious and all believers, whatever stage of the journey of discovery they may be on. We do not want anyone to be hindered on that journey.

Diversity. We want our worship to reflect a mixture of longing and celebration, fasting and feasting. We want our material to include treasures new and old but in a relevant and contemporary way.

Integrity. We want people to worship with integrity of heart and lives.

Flow. We believe that worship leads us into a greater awareness of the presence of God, a greater vision of Him and intimacy with Him. This flow will have musical elements but the flow can include silence and reflection, and will be handled differently in different settings.

Encounter Church Winchcombe

Firefall

Who we become is determined by who we worship and how we pray. Ultimately, the transcript of our prayers becomes the script of our life together. Prayer and worship are the foundational building blocks of everything we do as a church.

Firefall is our monthly corporate prayer meeting on the 4th Monday of every month where we gather to Worship, Listen, Pray and Encourage one another.
